Luminosity Mask Cover

Join San Luis Obispo, California based professional landscape and nature photographer Nic Stover for a Zoom workshop titled “The Magic of Luminosity Masks in Photoshop.”

In this information packed session, we will dive into luminosity masking, which can be confusing and overwhelming, and yet is probably one of the most powerful use of tools within Adobe Photoshop. Luminosity masking allows you to create stronger, more powerful images by making targeted selections which are edited for color and luminance. Nic will will break down this usually considered advanced Photoshop topic into simple language and demonstrate how to create really subtle, yet powerful adjustments to your images that you simply can’t do in Lightroom or other programs.

Subjects covered will include:

  • Defining luminosity masks
  • Identifying different types of luminosity masks
  • Demonstrating luminosity masks in my work, ranging from blending out blemishes to fixing a blown out sky.
  • Demonstrating various adjustments tools like levels, curves, and color balance, and the effects they have on lights and darks in images.
  • Discovery of some of the other programs available for easier creation of masks
  • Demonstrating how to load actions in Photoshop so that you use the Orton Effect actions or similar
  • Understanding best practices to consider when working with masks

One of the best reviewed portions of this class is a complete image run-through from start to finish of one of his images, using a step-by-step workflow process of how he creates his own masks, and makes curves, levels, and color balance adjustments. You will get a copy of Nic's Photoshop workflow, a complete printed copy of the presentation, and permanent access to private recording of the presentation.

Recently, Nic did a great job giving a presentation on evaluating light in the landscape. Join the Wasatch Camera Club on April 13th at 6:30 via Zoom for this powerful class. Registration is required and the class is for members only. Upon registration you will be sent an email with the Zoom link. Please retain this email in order to log into the presentation. If you do not receive a confirmation email please check your spam folder and if needed, send an email to requesting the link.

Please note that this is considered an advanced class and requires competence and comfort with fundamental Photoshop skills.

Normally Nic charges $35 per person to give this presentation but we negotiated a special price for the club and are offering it free to members. We are however open to any donation you may want to contribute to help offset the cost!
