One of the greatest things about photography is its ability to communicate something to the viewer. Your images are immensely powerful tools which can reach out and touch people, crossing all language and age barriers. Every color, line and shape you choose to include in your final image has an emotional effect on the viewer. During this presentation, Steve Gettle will talk about how all these different elements within your image can more effectively communicate your chosen message to your audience.

Our first assignment is to Make the Mundane Memorable. Your challenge is to document the ordinary, even though we are experiencing extraordinary times. Looking at photos can instantly transport you to a moment in time and tell a story.
Ideas (a few of many possibilities):
There aren’t any rules for this challenge, except, you are asked to share images that were taken for this assignment. Please do not use images from your current library! Hint: Cell phones may be the perfect tool.
Outside your comfort zone? Good! The reason for participating is to stretch your way of seeing and expressing. It’s an opportunity to tell your story. This is one of the many benefits of belonging to our camera club: to see and share different ideas. Lean in!
Join us on February 8th at 6:30 PM for a Zoom share. Plan on sharing up to 5 images. More can be shared if time allows. This event is for members only and you will need to register in order to participate.

Detailed Outline:
It’s time for our first in person gathering in almost a year and a half! Join Wasatch Camera Club as we meet at Essential Photo Supply in Salt Lake City and then go on a photowalk ... together! This event takes place on June 23rd and what better way to celebrate the longer days of the summer solstice!
The owners of Essential Photo Supply will welcome us and give us a chance to see their new store. From there, we will go on a photowalk to Liberty Park, just 4 blocks away.
Opportunities abound at Liberty Park for photography. People are out and about; picnicking, exercising, and playing games. There will be ample opportunity for street style, action, bird and dog photography. We will watch for solstice light, patterns, shadows, reflections, birds and storytelling moments.
A couple weeks after the photowalk, we will convene on Zoom to share what people have captured. It’s fascinating how differently we see and what we choose to share. The Zoom meeting will be open to all members of the Wasatch Camera Club, with photowalk participants sharing and others observing.

It is an introduction to analyzing images and is similar to the online course offered to PSA individual members.
The workshop is presented by a trained leader and will cover topics such as:
1) defining image analysis
2) analyzing an image using elements such as impact, composition, lighting and creativity
3) identifying trouble areas such as distractions and split interest
4) reading eye movement within an image
This course is offered in two parts. First, using a lottery, we will select eight club members to provide an image and then participate in the analysis of the images. Secondly, a Zoom meeting will be held a week later and the live discussion of the images will be open to all members as observers on Zoom. They are listed as two separate events on this website.
Lottery registration for the opportunity to participate in the analysis closes on January 12, 2022. Those chosen by lottery to participate will be notified by email. Please enter the lottery only if you are willing to provide an image and participate in the discussion. Click here to enter the lottery!
The Image Analysis workshop to observe how an analysis is done will be January 20, 2022 at 6:30 PM MST and is open to all members. Registered observers will be provided a Zoom link by the instructor, which will be emailed at a later date.
If you enter the lottery, please register for both. If you don’t register to observe the workshop and aren’t selected for the lottery, you may not receive the Zoom link.
This workshop is for members only and registration is required. Your PSA club membership is part of your WCC membership and is one of the many benefits of belonging to the Wasatch Camera Club!

I have been working with birds for over 20 years. After interviewing my mentor, Steve Chindgren, for a book report in elementary school, I started volunteering at the World OF Flight Bird show at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. After 5 years volunteering, I worked my way up to lead trainer for the show and held the position for over 8 years. During this time, I trained dozens of birds from tiny doves to the largest eagle species in the world, the Steller's Sea Eagle. Birds of prey captivate my imagination, and observing their behavior, earning their trust, and training them for free flight is a privilege and honor. I train using exclusively positive reinforcement and absolutely love building trust and relationships with all of my birds. Igniting the spark of interest and passion in others for birds of prey drives me to provide the most engaging, entertaining and educational programs possible. You asked and we listened! We have had several requests for a workshop on the app called Photo Pills. Join Rafael Pons (the PhotoPills Team) and learn how to use PhotoPills to plan your photos involving the Sun, natural light, the Moon and the Milky Way.
Bio: Surprisingly enough, PhotoPills co-founder Rafael Pons claims not to be a photographer. However, he travels the world teaching how to use PhotoPills to help photographers imagine, plan and shoot legendary photos. With more than 700,000 downloads worldwide, the PhotoPills app has become the Swiss Army Knife for photographers. It includes everything you need: from sources of inspiration (PhotoPills Awards) and learning (photo guides and videos) to multiple tools to help you plan your photo ideas (planner, augmented reality, exposure, depth of field ...).
Join Wasatch Camera Club on January 11th at 6:30 PM. Rafael is staying up late (2:30 AM in Madrid) to show us the way. This workshop is for members only and requires registration. A Zoom link will be sent to you after you have registered. Go to the PhotoPills website for more information and to download the app (app is not needed to attend the workshop).

He is a current member of Wasatch Camera Club. His work is largely a documentary of life on earth, with an eye for composition, while retaining the fullest sense of reality and preserving it with the highest degree of precision and detail. The world around us is so infinitely complex that he wants to capture it faithfully. Over time, he moved from film to digital. His mirrorless crop sensor camera gave way to a full frame DSLR, which in turn gave way to the Hasselblad digital medium format cameras that he shoots today. The medium format sensors have a terrific tonal range and resolution, which is key for printing. Hahnemuhle fine art cotton rag has become his preferred medium for fine art giclee’ prints, which have to be seen to be believed. There is a luxurious texture, clarity and color depth that carries the precision and detail of the Hasselblad images perfectly and reproduces moments in time faithfully. The large format photos literally open windows to the places he has been; places that inspire and simply bring delight. \NTo make the presentation of a photo even better, he mounts and frames the photos to get them ready for home or exhibition. The whole process has become incredibly satisfying; from capturing the shots, to seeing them hanging on a wall.
To make the presentation of a photo even better, he mounts and frames the photos to get them ready for home or exhibition. The whole process has become incredibly satisfying; from capturing the shots, to seeing them hanging on a wall. He has learned a lot along the way, from the gear we all shoot to what makes an image look good on paper, to how to present it, and what it has been like running his own exhibitions.
