PC Dawn Griffith @ The Knolls Recreation Area
Date: October 22nd
Time: Meet at 5:00 PM
Meeting Point: Exit 41 off I-80 (Knolls Recreation Area)
Drive Time: ~1.5 hours from Salt Lake City
Sunset: 6:40 PM
Join us for one last astrophotography adventure before the Milky Way core dips below the horizon for the season! We’ll be heading out to a stunning dark-sky location I personally scouted in September—perfect for capturing dramatic foregrounds and celestial brilliance.
✨ Bonus: The Orionid meteor shower peaks on the 21st, so expect plenty of shooting stars to light up your frame!
📍 We’ll meet at Exit 41 off I-80 and caravan to the site together. Once there, feel free to spread out and shoot from wherever inspires you. Arriving by 5:00 PM ensures we catch Golden Hour, Sunset, and Blue Hour.
🧭 What to Bring:
- Headlamp (it gets very dark)
- Chair (for comfort while shooting)
- Bug spray (yes, even in the chill)
- Warm clothes (temps drop fast after dark)
- Water
- Toilet paper (bathrooms may be unstocked)
- Good shoes for sandy terrain
📱 Cell reception is spotty, so meeting at the exit helps us stay connected.
⛅ Weather Dependent: If rain or snow is in the forecast, the event will be canceled due to road conditions.
🕚 It’s a weekday, but I was home by 11 PM last time—totally doable if you’re up for a midweek escape.
Let’s make the most of this cosmic send-off. Hope to see you out there!
Directions will be sent upon registering.
