Camping in the West Desert – Wild Horses and Stars

Event Details

  • Date:
  • Venue: simpson springs
  • Categories: Overnight Fieldtrips

Our camping trip to the West Desert will provide opportunity to photograph the wild horses (assuming they cooperate!) at sunrise and sunset, when they are typically more active.  At night, if the skies are clear, we’ll photograph the stars and Milky Way.  This is a camping trip!  Bring your tent and camp gear, and enough food and drink to get you through the weekend.

The club has reserved several campsites at the Simpson Springs campground, which we’ll share (up to 4 people per campsite).  If you prefer to bring a camper or trailer, please reserve a space on your own. There are also several campsites for use on a first-come-first-served basis.  Simpson Springs campground has tables and fire rings at each site, pit toilets, and potable water.

UPDATE:  If you are registering after August 5, 2024, you will have to arrange for your own campsite!  Please use recreation.gov to search for a site, or come early for a same-day campsite.  Lastly, you could also camp on adjacent BLM land.
