We will be hosting this year’s astro field trip at Lone Rock. Please note it is not the Lone Rock on the Great Salt Lake. See info below on how to get there. You have the option to primitive camp if you so choose or head home in the late night or early morning hours. Totally up to you. We will meet at the turn off from Skull Valley Road (196) and head to the rock together to find the best location for our group. Please wear sturdy closed toe shoes and bring the following:
- Chair
- Bug Spray
- Long Sleeve Pants and Shirts
- Coat
- Water
- Night Head Lamp (Red Light)
- Food or Eat Prior to Event
- Tracker (If You Own One)
Lone Rock is a camping and climbing destination located near Dugway, Utah. It has plenty of room for a group of any size to shoot the Milky Way over it. To reach Lone Rock, head west of SLC on I80 to the Rowley/Dugway exit #77 and head south on Skull Valley Road (196) about 3 miles until you see a small sign that says “Lone Rock” and a big rock on the right side of the road. Camping spots are available around the rock, with the best camping being in the flatter areas on the west side.
